Homer Gere: The Young Actor Who Could Be Hollywood’s Next Big Name

Some actors spend their entire childhood dreaming about Hollywood.

Homer Gere wasn't one of them.

At one point, the 26-year-old was more interested in science, the outdoors and figuring out what he actually wanted to do with his life. Acting wasn't some carefully planned career waiting for him.

It almost happened by accident.

Now, after landing roles in Euphoria and Ryan Murphy's new series The Shards, Homer Gere suddenly finds himself in a very different world. And while his last name is certainly familiar, there is something interesting about the way his acting career has started.

He doesn't seem particularly interested in becoming famous.

And that might be exactly what makes him worth watching.

He Didn't Grow Up Chasing Hollywood

Yes, Homer Gere is Richard Gere's son. His mother is actress Carey Lowell.

That alone makes his story complicated.

Growing up with famous parents could easily have pushed someone toward acting from an early age. But Homer has said that he didn't really grow up inside Hollywood. His family deliberately kept life relatively separate from the entertainment industry, and he didn't even step onto a professional film set until very recently.

Instead, he went to Brown University and spent a surprisingly long time trying to figure out what he wanted to study.

According to a recent interview, he went through 13 different majors before eventually graduating with an art degree.

That's not exactly the traditional path to becoming a Hollywood actor.

Then a Student Film Changed Everything

The turning point came during college.

In 2022, a friend asked Homer to act in a student film.

It wasn't supposed to launch a career.

It was simply something to do with friends.

But he liked it.

Then he started getting involved in more student productions. He helped with sketches, production design and location scouting. He wanted to be part of the process, even when he wasn't necessarily standing in front of the camera.

Slowly, acting stopped being an experiment and started becoming something he genuinely cared about.

That is perhaps the most interesting part of his story.

There wasn't a childhood plan.

There wasn't a decade-long campaign to become famous.

He simply discovered something he enjoyed and kept going.

The Call That Changed His Life

After graduating, Homer still wasn't completely sure what came next.

He spent time outdoors, including travelling and climbing, before receiving an unexpected call from a talent manager who had seen one of his student films.

Suddenly, Hollywood didn't seem quite so far away.

In 2025, he auditioned for two shows.

One was Euphoria.

The other was The Shards.

He ended up getting both.

For someone with almost no professional acting experience, that is an extraordinary start.

His first major professional set was Euphoria, and he later moved straight into The Shards, where he plays Robert Mallory, one of the show's most mysterious characters.

Then Ryan Murphy Came Calling

The Shards may be the role that really puts Homer on people's radar.

Created by Ryan Murphy and based on Bret Easton Ellis's novel, the series takes place in 1981 Los Angeles and follows a group of wealthy teenagers whose world becomes increasingly dark and dangerous.

Homer plays Robert Mallory, a new student whose mysterious behavior makes people wonder whether he could be connected to a series of murders.

It's exactly the sort of role that requires an actor to hold something back.

Robert isn't supposed to be easy to understand.

And Homer seems to have embraced that.

He has explained that he deliberately tried not to decide exactly who Robert was, because keeping some uncertainty helped make the character more believable.

That's a pretty ambitious challenge for an actor who is only just beginning his professional career.

He Has One Very Unusual Advantage

There is obviously something else people will talk about.

His surname.

Being Richard Gere's son gives Homer a level of attention most young actors don't get.

But it also creates a problem.

People can easily assume that everything was handed to him.

Homer doesn't pretend his family background is irrelevant. He knows exactly who his father is and understands that his surname opens doors.

But there is an interesting difference between having an opportunity and being able to do something with it.

Hollywood can get you into the room.

It can't guarantee that people will remember you after you leave it.

And so far, Homer seems to be making a real effort to build an identity that isn't simply an extension of his father's.

He Doesn't Seem Obsessed With Fame

This might be the strangest thing about Homer Gere.

He doesn't appear particularly interested in celebrity culture.

Ryan Murphy has even described this as one of the qualities he likes about him. Murphy sees a sense of mystery in Homer and believes he is more interested in acting itself than in becoming famous.

That's unusual in an industry where visibility is almost a second job.

Homer has also spoken about spending time climbing, travelling and even taking a silent meditation retreat.

For someone whose career suddenly started moving very quickly, he seems surprisingly comfortable stepping away from the noise.

And perhaps that will help him in the long run.

The Beginning, Not the Finished Story

It's too early to say that Homer Gere is going to become a huge Hollywood star.

That's the fun part.

We are seeing the beginning of the story rather than the finished version.

He has only recently started working professionally, but he's already appeared in one of television's biggest shows and landed a major role in a Ryan Murphy production.

He has also worked alongside actors with far more experience.

And unlike many young actors who arrive in Hollywood with a carefully constructed image, Homer still seems to be figuring himself out.

That can actually be an advantage.

Audiences tend to notice when someone feels like a real person rather than a perfectly packaged celebrity.

So, Is He Hollywood's Next Big Star?

Maybe.

Or maybe his career will take a completely different direction.

That's what makes Homer Gere interesting right now.

He isn't a finished product.

He's not someone with twenty years of credits behind him. He's an actor at the beginning of something, still discovering what he can do and what kind of performer he wants to become.

And sometimes those are the actors worth watching most closely.
