Italian villagers say: Everyone can live a hundred, but with a couple of churches

If you want to experience hundreds, you will have to sacrifice more than fatty foods or sweets.
A survey carried out over locals from remote Italian villages who celebrated 90 years and + revealed that all long-lived parts of a certain psychological trait, writes "Time".
The study, published in the International Psychiatry, dealt with the mental and physical health of 29 villagers aged 90 to 101 from the Italian region of Cilento, known precisely by temporary residents. Participants filled out standard questionnaires and interviewed migration, traumatic events and attitudes and beliefs. Younger family members also shared their impressions of the personal qualities of their relatives.
The young people described them as dominant, stubborn, controlling. But centuries have also shown that they are flexible and flexible.
- Thanks to my sons, I recover after the death of my wife and now I feel much better. I've been fighting my whole life and I'm always ready for change. I think that changes bring a life and give you a chance to grow up, "said an old villager who recently lost his wife.
The research shows that ninety-year-olds or centenarians learned to balance these seemingly contradictory traits.
- These people went through depression, migrations, lost loved ones. In order to progress, they must be able to accept and recover from what they can not change, but also to fight for what they can change - says Dr Dilip Heste, dean of the Healthy Age Center at the School of Medicine at the University of California.
Hundreds also share features such as positivity, strong work ethics and close ties to family, religion, and country. Most of them are still active, regularly working in the house or in the field. This gives them meaning in life, even in the old age, the authors of the study pointed out.The researchers also compared the health of the elderly with 59 younger members of their families, aged 51 to 75 years. It's no surprise that the centenarians had a broken physical health compared to the younger ones. But they therefore had a better mental state, stronger confidence and power to make decisions.
Heste says this is the paradox of aging - even when physical health has been broken, the mentality remained high, at least at the study participants. The study excluded dementia and people with other age and cognitive conditions, authors note.- Things like happiness and life satisfaction are at a high level, and depression and stress are low. This is the opposite of what we expect from age and shows that the "third season" is not grim as it does - says Heste.
